ARGONAUTS 42 NORTH WALES CRUSADERS 18
By Harry Jones at Crook Log Sports Centre, London
In a match, that had to be shortened, Argonauts clinched their second victory of the day.
Crusaders came out strong in the early exchanges of the days final game as they wanted to go out strong, however it was the Argonauts that drew first blood.
Fred Nye pounced on a loose pass and commanded his team up the field where he was able to play provider as he kicked through on the final tackle for Pete Johnston to dot down, adding the extras.
Some strong attack and defence followed by both teams as the youthful Crusaders give just as good as they got in this period, and it paid off as captain Jess Booth was able to cross in the corner with Halsey adding the extras to take it to 6-all after 12 minutes.
The next 10 minutes was much of the same as each team exchanged strong attack and defence but the international experience of Johnson soon showed as he was able jinx his way through the line to cross in the corner, successfully adding the extras to take it to 12-6 with 13 left to play.
There was a short stoppage in play with 10 minutes left due to a broken wheel for Jakub Wasieczko, dropping the Crusaders down to 4 players for a short period, however this didn’t matter as Matthew Turner was able to cross in the corner with Halsey able to add the extras to make it 12-a-piece with 9 to play in the first half.
Argonauts seemed to have found their purple patch as they went back-to-back with tries, firstly Richard Carver crossed and secondly Ellie Cockerton over, both of which came from great passages of passing. Peter Johnston was able to add all the extras.
Crusaders had the final say of the half as Matthew Turner was able to ground the ball direct from kick-off with Halsey adding the conversion taking it to 24-18 in favour of the home side.
Peter Johnston was the first to score in the ‘second half’ as he slinked his way over from range, with the conversion taking it to 30-18. Argonauts added the next score as well as Fred Nye broke the line to cross.
Once again Pete Johnston shown just how good he is by crossing for the final score of the game.
Due to members of one of the day's teams turning up late and the venue being unable to continue with the booking, this game was brought to a close early just 10 minutes into the second half with Argonauts claiming a 42-18 victory.
