In a competitive entertaining game at Wrexham University, Torfaen Tigers put on an excellent performance to overcome their hosts Crusaders Celts 38-22.

Leighton Morris scored under the sticks to give Torfaen the lead in the ninth minute. Scott Trigg-Turner converted.

Morris then went the full length of the pitch for his and Torfaen’s second with Trigg-Turner easily adding the extras.

Celts were soon back in the game, thanks to well-taken Sophie Bamford tries, both in the corner, with Martin Turner converting the first.

But Morris soon added completed his hat-trick of tries, adding his fourth just before the break. Trigg-Turner kept up his 100 per cent kicking record to give Torfaen a healthy 24-10 half-time lead.

A Martin Turner try and goal straight after half-time got Celts back into the game, but Tigers increased their lead 12 minutes later with a brilliant Trigg-Turner try and goal.

Morris soon added his fifth to potentially put the game to bed, but Mathew Morris-Parker missed the conversion, giving the Celts some hope being 18 points behind with 12 minutes to go.

They did get one try back, Turner scoring in the corner with three minutes to go, converting it himself, but Tigers had done enough for a hard-fought win that Morris cemented with his sixth try, on the hooter, that went unconverted.
