Cardiff Demons U14, playing in their first ever game of rugby league, were beaten by Dewsbury Moor 30-6, but actually “won” the second half 6-4 in the friendly encounter in Llantwit Major on Saturday morning.

Grace Larvin scored the opening try for Dewsbury after Demons couldn’t pick up a kick and she pounced. Isabelle Fairclough converted.

A good move by Sienna Kilner led to the home side’s second try. Fairclough converted well to put the score onto 12-0.

Ruby Sharp pounced to score their third just four minutes later. Again converted to make it 18-0 to the visitors.

The next score came from Lexie Widdop celebrating her first ever try for the club. Fairclough couldn’t convert.

Following a delay for an injury, Nell Enright leapt for the fifth try but Fairclough again couldn’t convert. 26-0 at the break.

A second half rout didn’t happen as the Demons took the game to their visitors and scored a well-deserved try 10 minutes into the second half. Sienna McCormack forced her way through for a try under the sticks which she converted herself.

Both sides had opportunities for further scores but Dewsbury had the final word in the last minute, Kilner scoring her second try which went unconverted.

Dewsbury took the lead with a fifth minute try through Jess Carney. Ruby Walker couldn’t convert.

Kaitlyn Morrison-Twibill scored in the corner on 11 minutes for Dewsbury’s second try which again went unconverted.

Ruby Gummery soon followed her over for the visitors’ third. Ruby Walker converted to put the score at 14-0.

Ruby Bruce reached over for their fourth try as the game headed towards half time. Morrison-Twibill couldn’t convert and Dewsbury went into the break with a 18-0 advantage.

Unlike in the 14s game, the visitors dominated the second half. It took just a minute for them to increase their lead as Morrison-Twibill darted through for her second. Walker converted to put the score onto 24-0.

Dewsbury kept scoring. Walker notched a quick brace of tries. Freya Moorehouse converted the first of them and it was 34-0 ten minutes into the second half.

Bruce ran 20 metres for next try, then came Charlotte McDaid who slipped through a gap before Bruce slipped through for her hat trick to put the score up to 46-0.

A Weronika Kuriata try brought up the 50 points for the visitors, before Bruce went under the sticks for her fourth try with Moorehouse converting to complete the scoring.
