Play

Do you want to play rugby league? There are plenty of different opportunities to get involved.

Juniors

There are a number of junior clubs in Wales, running a variety of age groups.

Some clubs run teams from under 8s up to under 16s, with girls and boys playing in the same team up to the age of under 14s.

Use our map to find a club near you, and contact them to find out all the information you need.

Men

The JES Group Rugby League Conference has been established for more than 20 years in South Wales. If you’re looking to join a club, check out our club finder.

If you’d like to setup a new club, send us an email and we can help you get up and running.

Women and girls

There are two Women’s teams in Wales – Cardiff Demons and North Wales Crusaders, who both play in the English league system.

In our junior competition, girls are able to play alongside boys up until under 12 and we have a development system in place in South Wales for girls aged 12-16 to progress. Our Wales Women’s team have qualified for World Cup 2026, so it’s a great time to get involved with the sport.

Wheelchair

Wheelchair Rugby League is unique in that it offers both disabled and non-disabled players of all genders the opportunity to compete both with and against each other on a level playing field.

The sport is faithful to the rules of Rugby League:

• Five players in each team score tries in exactly the same way as Rugby League
• Conversions are scored by punching the ball from a tee over mini-RL posts
• Tackles are made as in tag RL by taking the attached tag or flag
• Five tackles are followed by handing over the rugby ball to the opposition
• Offside, knock-on and in touch applies as per Rugby League

Physical Disability Rugby League (PDRL)

PDRL is an adapted version of rugby league aimed at facilitating those with physical disabilities the opportunity to play.

  • Nine players in a team with a physical disability
  • PDRL is a running format
  • Full contact and/or touch rugby based on the colour of the shorts a player wears, corresponding to their physical disability.

For further details about PDRL, where to play in Wales, or to get involved with the Welsh national side, please contact rob.davies@walesrugbyleague.co.uk.

Masters

If you’re 35 or over then Masters Rugby League is the game for you!

Masters is strictly a social version of the sport and the rules are slightly modified to cater for the older player. There are no winners, no champions and no cup finals – Masters is about is all about the spirit of the game. If you want to get involved, there are clubs all around Wales.

If you’d like to join us or set up your own Masters team or find out more, get in touch with Chris Thomas at masters@walesrugbyleague.co.uk
