North Wales Crusaders are set to play a double-header of Wheelchair Rugby League fixtures on Saturday 15th July as part of Harry Jones’ Testimonial at Wrexham’s Glyndwr University.
The Crusaders ‘A’ side, will face off against a ‘South Wales Barbarians’ side at the university. The ‘Barbarians’ side will be made up of players from both Toraen Tigers and Wales’ newest side, Cardiff Blue Dragons.
On playing the side, Jones said: “This is a great way to showcase domestic wheelchair rugby league for players that may not get as much coverage as some of our elite players.
“I strongly believe that if these two clubs coming as a joint effort as ‘South Wales Barbarians’, could become a gateway for Wales Rugby League to launch a wheelchair variant of their highly successful Origin Series.
“It’s an honour to be able to invite not only Cardiff and Torfaen to be a part of my testimonial, but also to be able to invite the rest of our Crusaders club. We have a lot of development players that love playing and I feel this is a great way for them to showcase their talents.”
In the headliner of the day, the Crusaders first team will take on fellow Championship rivals, Bradford Bulls.
Jones went on to say: “Bradford is a team that I hold in close regard, they were the second team I ever played against back in 2013 and were the first ever team I scored a try against.
“Bradford are a team that have been a dominating force in the Championship divisons in recent years, and I’m expecting a tough encounter against the side”.
“Inviting both of these teams was a no-brainer for me, I have good relationships with both clubs in South Wales and I hold very fond memories against the Bulls.
“I see the big-name clubs in Leeds and Halifax getting a lot of attention for their on-field performances and I believe that these games will be a great advertisement for the sport outside of the Super League.”
