Harry Jones and Ian Golden report on how Wales’ internationals and hopefuls got on last weekend…
In the Wheelchair Challenge Cup, Jodie Boyd-Ward captained her Leeds Rhinos squad as they managed to sneak out a narrow 48-44 victory at Hull FC. She scored a try in each half to get her team a spot in the next round of competition.
On Wednesday night, Mark Williams and Scott Trigg-Turner featured in Wigan Warriors’ convincing victory over Warrington Wolves. Williams scored two tries, whilst Trigg-Turner, who was on debut for the Warriors crossed for a hat-trick in a 120-4 victory.
Trigg-Turner was back in action three days later for Torfaen Tigers as they went top of the WRL Invitational League thanks to a win over North Wales Crusaders. He scored another hat-trick, as did Jason Reynolds, with Jamie Reynolds getting a try and six goals. Martin Turner and Stuart Williams were amongst the Crusaders try scorers, with Brogan Evans making her debut for the club. Lee Sargent was a star performer for Cardiff Blue Dragons, scoring four tries in their win over Swindon St George, starting alongside his father Paul Sargent.
In the men’s RFL Championship, Mike Butt and Matty Fozard each scored two tries in Widnes Vikings’ win at Hunslet. Rhodri Lloyd and Gavin Bennion were also in the Vikings’ side. Gil Dudson helped Oldham to a win at Doncaster. Elliot Kear‘s Batley Bulldogs drew at home to Barrow Raiders. Connor Davies travelled to France with Halifax Panthers, but they went down to Toulouse Olympique XIII, whilst Curtis Davies, Huw Worthington and Matt Ross were in the London side that lost at home to York Knights.
Finally, in League 1, Paddy Jones and Ant Walker were in the North Wales Crusaders side that lost at Swinton Lions, whilst George Birch played for Newcastle Thunder in their home defeat to Workington Town.
In France, Max Clarke was in the Carcassonne side that lost at Albi, whilst in Australia, Harry Hayes played in the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs side that beat Gold Coast Titans. Hayden Barton played for Sydney Roosters Reserves in the win against their Bulldogs counterparts.
