The Sir Billy Boston Memorial XIII will take on Wales A at The Wern in Merthyr Tydfil on Saturday 17 October (kick-off 12.30pm), in a curtain-raiser to Wales men’s international against the USA (kick-off 3pm).
South Wales Jets chairman and Wales Rugby League director Liam Price organised the side after the Wales A side’s original opponents withdrew, and Ben Flower will coach it, where he will face his South Wales Jets co-head coach, Lloyd White, who is in charge of Wales A.
Price is looking forward to seeing the two coaches go head-to-head, while showcasing talent from across the Welsh game.
He said: “I’m delighted to help bring this side together for what promises to be a fantastic day for rugby league in Wales. The Sir Billy Boston Memorial XIII is a great opportunity to showcase talent from across the game, and playing Wales A at The Wern ahead of the senior international makes it a special occasion.
“Having Ben Flower and Lloyd White coaching opposite sides adds an extra bit of spice. They work together at the Jets, but on Saturday they’ll both be desperate to get one over on the other! I’m sure it’ll be a competitive game and a great curtain-raiser to Wales v USA.”
With both coaches familiar with each other’s methods and the qualities of players across the Welsh game, the fixture promises to be an intriguing contest ahead of the senior international.
