The biggest season ever in South Wales kicks off this weekend, headlined by three fixtures in the WRL Men’s League, which celebrates its 20th anniversary.
All three games, that kick-off at 2.30pm, have a great story to tell. Defending champions Rhondda Outlaws travel to Welfare Ground in Hirwaun to take on Cynon Valley Cavaliers, who are fielding an open-age side for the first time.
Aberavon Fighting Irish take on Bridgend Blue Bulls at Harlequins Field, Port Talbot. This is a repeat of the first ever Welsh Grand Final in 2003 that Bridgend won.
Finally, Torfaen Tigers have returned to the competition after a spell in an English tournament. They will face another new side in South Wales Jets, at The Wern in Merthyr Tydfil. The Jets were founded as a rugby union charity side in 2020 and have since made over £6,000 for their partnered mental health charity “Signposted Cymru”.
Then on Sunday, the junior leagues kick-off with more matches than ever before. Now starting at U8s and going up to U19s, there are nearly 30 junior matches due to take place this weekend. Please check individual club social media feeds before travelling to games for confirmation of fixture time and venue.
