Torfaen cement League Leaders title with eight wins from eight

In arguably the most exciting match of the regular season, Torfaen Tigers beat North Wales Crusaders 40-24 to finish the regular season unbeaten and cement their League Leaders Title win.

Torfaen were 18-0 up in five minutes through tries from Jason Reynolds, Dane Oram and Jamie Reynolds, with Jamie converting all three.

Crusaders hit back on 14 minutes with a good Fionn McCabe try that Harry Mitchell-Jones improved.

Jamie Reynolds scored Tigers’ fourth on 22 minutes, but after Crusaders regained the ball from kick-off, Matthew Turner went over for his side’s second, converting it himself.

But Tigers went into half-time with a 34-12 lead thanks to a try from each Reynold, with Jamie adding two goals.

It took 11 minutes for the first score of the second half, and it came for Crusaders, through Fionn McCabe.  

Then Turner went the length of the pitch for another try back, then converted his own try.

But Tigers, who had been under pressure for a lot of the second half, made sure of the points with a Jason Reynolds try that Mark Williams converted.

The same two sides meet in Saturday’s Grand Final at Wrexham University (kick-off 12.45pm).

In the final match of the season for the bottom two sides, Swindon St George edged out Cardiff Blue Dragons 16-14 for their first win of the season.

Lee Sargent opened the scoring for Cardiff with a try that his sister Libbie Sargent converted.

Swindon’s loan players got them back into the game A Jason Reynolds try, converted by Leighton Morris, put the score at 6-all at the break.

A Lee Sargent penalty put Cardiff back in front early in the second half, before he added a try with Daniel Martin converting.

The game was in the balance right up until the end. With six minutes to go, Brogan Evans scored under the sticks with Tony Ellis converting.

Two minutes later, Reynolds added his second, scoring under the sticks for the winning try.
