Rugby League Ireland and the Irish Masters team have announced that they will be hosting the 2024 Tri-Nations Festival, with Wales and England the visitors to The New Forge Sports Centre, Belfast on Saturday 16th November.
The festival is being held in Ireland for the first time, following the events in 2021 in Leigh East, England (which featured England, Ireland and Canada) and 2022 in Bethesda, Wales.
RLI Masters Committee Chairman Scott Wilson said: “It’s a tremendous opportunity for us to host the next festival between our neighbours, and get the chance to lace up the boots, have a run out and have a beer with some friendly faces again. We’re really looking forward to having England and Wales come to visit us, having had many touring teams come to play all our teams, over the last five years”.
This will be the seventh match between Wales and Ireland at this level, the last being played earlier this year. Wales and England have previously met three times, the last being in July 2023.
More details of the day and the travelling squad for Wales will be released at a later date.
Masters Rugby League is played by people aged 35 and over. Even though tries are scored in Masters Rugby League, no points are recorded and there are no winners in this version of the sport, with every match ending officially in a 0-0 draw. There are no winners, no champions and no cup finals – Masters is about is all about the spirit of the game. It’s also great for mental well-being.
If you want to get involved in Masters, there are clubs all around Wales.
