Wales Masters name side for Ireland trip

Wales Masters have named a 20-player squad for their trip to Virgin Media Park, the Cork home of Munster RUFC, to face Ireland on Saturday 4th October.

This is now becoming an annual trip to the Emerald Isle for the Wales Masters side, having faced them in Dublin and Belfast in the last two years. It will be the ninth meeting between the two sides at Masters level, and the 99th between Wales and Ireland in all forms of international rugby league.

There are six uncapped players in the squad – Alan Leech from Cardiff Blue Dragons, Glyn Cartwright, Roy Johnson and Alan Wraight from North Wales Buccaneers, Andrew Pullar from Solent Spitfires, and Benjamin Cotter from Swindon St George.

Robert Martin from Army Masters, will captain the Wales side.

Masters Rugby League is played by people aged 35 and over. Even though tries are scored in Masters Rugby League, no points are recorded and there are no winners in this version of the sport, with every match ending officially in a 0-0 draw. There are no champions and no cup finals – Masters is about is all about the spirit of the game. It’s also great for mental well-being.
