This Saturday 7th December at Cardiff University Sports Park in Llanrumney, the WRL Origin season kicks off when East Wales and West Wales face each other at elite U14 and U16 levels, with development matches also taking place.
It’s the fourth year in a row that the successful Origin programme has run through the winter and the first time that it has been held for U18s, with their representative match set to take place later this month.
Ten community clubs are represented in the matches this Saturday – Aberavon Fighting Irish, Aber Valley Wolves, Bridgend Blue Bulls, Cardiff Blue Dragons, Cynon Valley Cavaliers, Rhondda Outlaws, South Wales Jets, South Wales Saints, Swansea Rams and Torfaen Tigers.
WRL head of youth Paul Berry said: “We’re really looking forward to what has become one of our marquee events in the WRL calendar.
“We’ve had over 350 registered players this year between U14s, U16s and U18s. Almost every community club will be represented this weekend across the four games as well as an influx of new coaches and volunteer staff this year who have turned out every Saturday morning over the past 10 weeks to allow the boys an opportunity to train.
“There will be plenty of talent on show, and no doubt a number who are at the start of their journey to hopefully progress to represent the men’s team over the next 5-10 years.”
