Gwylio’r Cymry – Welsh Wigan stars success

Scott Trigg-Turner and Mark Williams helped Wigan Warriors to a 72-24 win over Hull FC in the Wheelchair Super League play-offs, with Trigg-Turner scoring four tries. Wigan’s win means that they need to better London Roosters in this week’s matches, but they take on favourites Halifax Panthers in their final group game. In the consolation matches for those not involved in the play-offs, Jodie Boyd-Ward scored a try in Leeds Rhinos’ win over Sheffield Eagles.

In the Women’s Super League, Carys Marsh was also victorious with Wigan Warriors, as they beat St Helens 24-20 to win the League Leaders’ Shield. Dani McGifford went over for a try for Saints. In other matches, Agnes Wood scored two tries for York Valkyrie as they won at Barrow Raiders, whilst Gracie Hobbs was in the Huddersfield Giants side that lost to Leeds Rhinos.

Over to the men’s Super League and Denive Balmforth went over for a try for Catalans Dragons as they sneaked a 17-16 win at Salford Red Devils. Luke Thomas came off the bench in Warrington Wolves’ home defeat to Leigh Leopards. In Australia, Sam Hughes played for Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in their home defeat to Cronulla Sharks in the final round of the NRL regular season.

There was a battle for the final play-off spot in the men’s Championship, with Connor Davies helping Halifax Panthers to a 16-14 win over Widnes Vikings. Matty Fozard scored a try for Widnes, who now miss out, with Mike Butt also in the Vikings side. Elsewhere, Caleb Aekins was in the Featherstone Rovers side who beat Oldham, whilst Billy Walkley helped Sheffield Eagles to a big away win at Hunslet. London Broncos, who fielded Curtis Davies, lost at home to Bradford Bulls. Elliot Kear‘s Batley Bulldogs lost at Toulouse Olympique XIII.

In the final matches of the League 1 season, Sam Bowring, on his comeback game after picking up an injury in the very first match of the season, danced over the line for a try for Midlands Hurricanes in their win over George Birch‘s Newcastle Thunder. Dec Tomlinson helped Dewsbury Rams to a win at Rochdale Hornets, whilst Max Clarke did likewise for Workington Town at Goole Vikings. Finally, Paddy Jones and Ben Evans were in the North Wales Crusaders side, who lifted the title last week, but lost this week at Whitehaven,
