South Wales Jets and Aberavon Fighting Irish both shut out their opponents in the JES Group Rugby League Conference as the competition reaches the business end of the season.
The Jets won 46-0 against Bridgend Blue Bulls “on the road” in Ammanford as part of their “Jets Fest” that saw over 400 players take to the field in a big day of rugby league.
There were matches at U8, U9, U10, U11, U12, U13 and U14 between West Wales Jets and South Wales Jets, a girls U14s training session and Nines match, plus Swansea Rams faced West Wales Jets at U16 level with Swansea winning 42-6.
In the 12s, 13s and 14s, that were full-blown competitive league matches, South Wales, the league leaders in each of those competitions, won 42-0, 52-16 and 58-0 respectively.
The senior men’s match was a very one-sided affair with Bridgend bringing an understrength squad and also picking up injuries forcing the match to be halted early.
Dean Higgs gave Jets the lead in the seventh minute, the first of two tries for the captain. Morgan Raison failed to add the goal, but he wouldn’t miss again in the game, converting the other seven tries.
Dafydd Hellard, Dai Hooper, Ieuan Sims, Lewis Hughes (2) and Matthew Jacobs were the other Jets try scorers.
The match in Hirwaun between Cynon Valley Cavaliers and Aberavon Fighting Irish suffered the same fate, with injuries meaning the referee blew up ahead of the 80 minute mark.
Aberavon, the league leaders, stormed to a 70-0 win with Ioan Evans leading the way with a hat-trick of tries. Cody Rees, Sam Gardner and Conor O’Callaghan went over twice each, with Lewis Cronin, Rhys Evans and Ieuan Allen all adding tries. Ryan Pugh kicked 11 goals from 12 attempts.
