Men’s team appoint new Team Manager

Darren Morson has been appointed as Team Manager for the Wales Rugby League Men’s team.

Originally from Builth Wells, Darren has a playing background in rugby union with clubs in Wales, England and Tanzania.

His first team management role came at Old Halesonians RFC, but in 2020 Darren’s passion for league meant he took on the role as Assistant Team Manager with Coventry Bears. He became Team Manager when the club rebranded to Midlands Hurricanes in 2021 – a role he still holds to this day.

He will work as part of John Kear’s backroom staff as the Men’s team compete in the European Championship this Autumn and aim to qualify for Rugby League World Cup 2025. Darren was Assistant Team Manager to Bob Wilson during Rugby League World Cup 2021 – Bob’s final involvement with Wales Rugby League having been part of the Men’s setup since 2013.

“It’s an honour to continue to play a part with Wales Rugby League,” said Darren.

“The World Cup was really enjoyable and it was invaluable to spend time working alongside someone with Bob’s experience in the Team Manager role.

“Combining that with my own experience over recent years with the Hurricanes, I’m excited to get going and play my part in a successful Men’s team.”

Mark Jones, General Manager at Wales Rugby League, added: “Darren made a hugely positive impression on all the staff and players during the World Cup. He really earned the opportunity to be Team Manager role and I’m delighted that he’s taking it on.

“On behalf of Wales Rugby League, I’d like to thank Bob for all his hard work in the role since 2013. He’s a passionate Welshman and I know we’ll see him in the stands at matches in the years to come.”
