We were sorry to hear about the recent passing of former Wales international Colin Standing, who died peacefully on 18th May at the Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend, aged 83.
Colin played just 25 games of senior first-class rugby league, but two of them were for Wales, against France and England in the 1969-70 European Championship. He was heritage number 281 for Wales.
Born on 30th May 1942 in Bridgend, he played rugby union for Tondu, Cefn Cribwr and London University, and started playing with Bridgend RFC in 1961. A full-back until he was 18-years-old, he then switched to the back row.
Whilst at Bridgend, he represented Crawshays and also a combined Bridgend-Maesteg XV that faced the touring Fijians in 1964.
He turned professional with Wigan in 1967 but only played 18 first-team matches in his two seasons there, scoring two tries, and also appeared several times for their reserves side. He played four times for Oldham and once for Warrington in 1970 before moving back to Wales, where he still enjoyed long-distance walking, golf and daily swimming, right into his 70s.
He was an industrial chemist by trade.

Colin’s Funeral is tomorrow, Tuesday, 9th June at Coychurch Crematorium at 2.15pm.
