Rugby League returns to Cardiff Arms Park on Saturday 14th June with Summer Smash, as all eight JES Group Rugby League Conference sides meet in the capital in a day-long event.
Player ages on the day will range from seven to 70 as in addition to the four premier encounters, there will be a Masters international between Wales and Ireland plus U8 and U9 matches featuring domestic Welsh clubs. It’s a total of 13 exciting matches for fans to enjoy from 11am until 8pm.
The day opens with capital side Cardiff Blue Dragons taking on new boys West Wales Jets. Then at 1pm, it’s Cynon Valley Cavaliers v Bridgend Blue Bulls. At 3pm, there’s a repeat of last year’s Grand Final as the prime time game sees Aberavon Fighting Irish against South Wales Jets. The Masters encounter is at 5pm before Rhondda Outlaws v South Wales Saints concludes the day at 6.30pm.
The junior fixtures will be at half-time of each game, where on most occasions, the same two sides’ U8s and U9 sides will play their matches before continuing to support their senior sides.
Wales Rugby League CEO Richard Hibbard said: “We’re delighted to be taking the first ever Summer Smash to Cardiff Arms Park.
“We are growing this sport from the grassroots up, and to give the clubs and players of the JES Group Rugby League Conference this stage is the latest way of us doing just that.
“There are four fixtures with Conference league points up for grabs, so we know all eight clubs will be going all out to get the wins and entertain the crowds.
“The 2024 Grand Final rematch is one to really whet the appetite, and I can’t wait for a day that will be a celebration of rugby league in Wales.”
