Wales PDRL squad named for next Sunday’s match

Wales Physical Disability Rugby League head coach Ieuan Griffiths has named an initial squad of 12 for the match against Team Colostomy at The Gnoll in Neath on Sunday 28th September (kick-off 2pm).

It’s the second annual match between the two sides, with Team Colostomy running out 16-8 winners last year.

Dylan Gimber and Chris Spriggs are welcomed back into the side after missing the defeat to England in Ystrad Mynach earlier this year.

PDRL is 11-a-side with adjusted rules to allow for many forms of physical disability, and for the match to be as inclusive as possible. Similar to Wheelchair, all genders are also welcome to compete in the same side in this version of rugby league.

Griffiths said: “This is an initial squad of 12 and hopefully, we’ll have a few more confirmed by the date of the match.

“Everyone loves to play for Wales, it’s an honour for the players to put on a shirt. Our players do this for the love of the sport and no compensation, which is why some have to check availability and work around other commitments.

“We’re all looking forward to the match.”

Admission to match is £5 adult, £3 seniors and under 16s free. Pay on the gate.

Wales: Chris Spriggs (Aberavon Fighting Irish), Jon Tranter (Castleford Tigers), Dylan Hughes (Leeds Rhinos), Tyma Hughes, Paul Jones, (Salford Red Devils), Sam Bowditch, Dylan Gimber (Torfaen Tigers), Rhod Davis, Paul O’Keefe, Matthew Turner (Warrington Wolves), Matt James, Stewart Newton (both unattached).
