Wales will take on England in a Physical Disability Rugby League (PDRL) international match this Saturday at Penallta RFC, home of the South Wales Jets (kick-off 12.30pm).
This game will be the first in a double header of action that day, with the Jets’ men’s side facing Rhondda Outlaws in a JES Group Rugby League Conference match at 3pm.
It’s the first match in charge for new Wales PDRL head coach Ieuan Griffiths, who will be playing a part in both matches that day as he’s also a coach at the Outlaws.
He said: “We’re looking forward to Saturday, to demonstrating how PDRL has come on over the last two years since the last World Cup and just looking forward to putting on a bit of a. performance in the run up to the World Cup next year.
“I am going to have two roles. I’ll be coaching PDRL first and then playing for the Outlaws in what will be my 70th game for the club. So it’ll be a tough challenge.”
PDRL is a full contact version of the game adapted for participants with a physical disability who want to access a running version of Rugby League.
Wales first competed in PDRL in the 2022 World Cup and recorded wins over New Zealand and Australia. They have since played annual senior internationals against England as well as matches against other representative sides.
Tickets for the matches can be bought on the gate for £5 adults, free for u16s.
