Wheelchair Grand Final date set

The 2025 WRL Wheelchair Invitational League Grand Final details have been confirmed, with Wrexham University hosting the encounter on Saturday, 25th October, kick-off 11.45am.

With last year’s final in the south of Wales, it’s the turn of the north to host.

Stephen Jones, Head of Wheelchair Rugby League in Wales, said: “It’s great that we can now lock in the Grand Final date, time, and venue for this, our third season of the WRL Wheelchair Invitational League.

“So far this season, we have seen some very competitive games. It’s been great to see how some of the teams have developed and improved since the league started in 2023.  It goes to show that the future of wheelchair rugby league in Wales, as we get nearer to the World Cup in Australia in 2026, is looking bright.”

The league has currently reached its halfway stage, and in pole position this year are Torfaen Tigers, who will have one foot in the Grand Final if they beat Swindon St George this Saturday at New College, Swindon (kick-off 3.15pm).

Torfaen, who train at Halo Pontypool Active Living Centre, have won four out of four so far this season in this four-team competition, which sees each side playing eight matches.

North Wales Crusaders and Cardiff Blue Dragons are on two wins each, and they are still to face each other twice, the first being this Saturday in the second match of the double-header at Swindon (4.35pm).

So, if the Tigers win on Saturday, they will be six points ahead of the third-placed side with three games to go, so it will take a remarkable fall in form for them not to qualify for the end-of-season showpiece.

Team news for the weekend’s games will be posted later this week, whilst broadcast details for the Grand Final will be confirmed in due course.
