Unconverted tries from Rhys Evans and Owen Evans gave Aberavon an early lead, but a Juris Kesans try converted by Corey Harris, brought the score back to 8-6 by half-time.

The sides swapped tries early in the second half. Rhys Evans was over for his second try, converted by Iestyn Griffiths, before Lewis Ingram scored for Bridgend, with Harris again adding the extras to put the score back to 14-12.

But two late tries secured the match for Aberavon. A Ieuan Allen try, that went unconverted, put the Fighting Irish a converted try ahead, before they finally secured the win after Kian Parlour went over with Griffiths adding the final goal.

As a curtain raiser, the two clubs’ U13 sides met, with Bridgend winning this encounter 30-24.

Both Aberavon and Bridgend will now be in action in “Summer Smash” this Saturday at Sardis Road in Pontypridd, where there will be two matches in the JES Group Rugby League Conference.

First, at 1pm, Aberavon take on Rhondda Outlaws, then at 4pm, Bridgend face South Wales Jets. There will also be U8 and U9 matches on display.
