The JES Rugby League Conference takes centre stage with matches between Aberavon Fighting Irish and Rhondda Outlaws (kick-off 1pm) and Bridgend Blue Bulls v South Wales Jets (kick-off 4pm), but in between these two big encounters, there will be 12 matches of U9 rugby league.
South Wales Saints and Swansea Rams will be joining the party after agreeing to bring two U9s sides, joining the Jets and the Outlaws, who will also be bringing two.
Each club will play each other once from 2.50pm, immediately following the first men’s match, with this part of the entertainment concluding at 3.20pm. The teams will clap the senior players out before each game.
WRL operations coordinator Rob Deeney said: “We’re really excited to have our junior clubs playing such a big part in Summer Smash. Having 12 Under-9s matches on the pitch gives these young players a fantastic opportunity to experience a big-event atmosphere and showcase the future of rugby league in South Wales.
“It’s brilliant that South Wales Saints, Swansea Rams, Rhondda Outlaws and South Wales Jets are all bringing two teams each, and we’re grateful to every club, coach, volunteer and parent for helping make it happen. The junior festival sits perfectly between our two JES Rugby League Conference fixtures and will create a great afternoon of rugby league for everyone attending.”
