Clive Griffiths confirmed as Crusaders Head Coach

North Wales Crusaders are delighted to confirm the appointment of former Wales and Great Britain Coach Clive Griffiths to head up the team at the Racecourse for the next two years.

Clive had a distinguished Rugby League career as both a player and coach, leading Wales for 10 years through a heyday for Rugby League with a team littered with stars such as Jonathan Davies and John Devereux. He also enjoyed a spell coaching Great Britain in 1996.

Whilst Clive has most recently been the Head Coach at RGC 1404, the North Wales Union side, he has maintained his coaching work in the 13-man game with both the Wales and Great Britain Students Rugby League sides – Head Coach of Wales and assistant at the Lions.

Speaking about the appointment Griffiths said: “I’m delighted and honoured to have been asked to take over at the new North Wales Crusaders. Rugby League has made a strong impact in a short space of time in Wrexham and this is a real opportunity to build a strong club in the heart of the community.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge immensely and now it’s time to rapidly get down to building a competitive squad for the coming season.”

Chief Executive of North Wales Crusaders Jamie Thomas commented: “To get someone of Clive’s pedigree and experience was hugely important for the birth of the new club and our first season in Championship 1.

“We spoke to quite a few coaches during the recruitment process and Clive stood out not only for his excellent rugby brain, but also a proven track record of pulling a squad together and making them competitive in a short space of time, which is the real and major task ahead of us.

“We look forward to making announcements on player recruitment very shortly and I can’t wait to see the team take the field in the New Year.”
