Wales Rugby League is the national governing body for Rugby League in Wales. We believe Rugby League is a cultural identity, a passion, and a powerful force throughout our communities. As we embark on an ambitious phase of growth, we’re seeking a voluntary Communications Non-Executive Director to join our Board. This is a unique opportunity to bring your communications expertise to a sport with a proud history and a bold future.
You will provide strategic leadership and Board-level oversight, helping WRL communicate clearly and consistently, strengthen engagement with its audiences, and protect and enhance the organisation’s reputation.
Your impact
As Communications NED you’ll play a pivotal role in:
- Communications Strategy: Provide strategic direction and oversight for WRL’s communications activities, ensuring they support our vision, values and strategic priorities.
- Brand & Messaging: Champion clear, consistent and accessible messaging, and support the effective use and protection of WRL’s brand and identity.
- Stakeholder Communications: Provide guidance on communications with members, partners, sponsors, communities and other key stakeholders.
- Digital, Social Media & Content: Support the development of WRL’s website, digital channels and social media presence, encouraging engaging, accurate and timely content.
- Board Collaboration: Work collaboratively with fellow Board members, providing independent judgement and constructive challenge on communications matters and wider Board discussions.
What You’ll Bring
- Experience in communications, marketing, media, public relations, digital content or a related field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence a wide range of audiences.
- A strategic understanding of brand, reputation, stakeholder communications and digital channels.
- High integrity, sound judgement and a collaborative approach, with an understanding of the responsibilities of a Non-Executive Director.

Role Details
- Type: Voluntary (reasonable expenses can be reimbursed).
- Time Commitment: Around 4 hours per week on average, plus attendance at four board meetings per year and key matches or events where possible.
- Location: Flexible – remote or at game venues, depending on the activity.
- Term: Initially a 3-year term, with the option to renew for a second term if mutually agreed.
