We’ve five matches to see this Sunday in JES Grand Finals Day at The Gnoll, but who are the players to watch in those games? We look at who’s been running in the tries for our finalists this season.
U12 Grand Final – Aber Valley Wolves v South Wales Jets – KO 10am
For Aber Valley Wolves it’s Roman Richards. He’s the joint-leading scorer in the U12 league with nine tries. South Wales Jets come into the final unbeaten and their top try scorer is Gabriel Benson. He’s just one behind on eight tries for the season. Both are playing their first-ever season of rugby league.
U13 Grand Final – Torfaen Tigers v Cynon Valley Cavaliers – KO 11am
Cynon Valley Cavaliers have the junior leagues’ top try scorer in Ellis McGregor. With 15 for the season, he’s four ahead of his nearest rival. Torfaen Tigers qualified from fourth place and their top try scorer this season is Finley Clark with six to his name.
U14 Grand Final – Aber Valley Wolves v Cynon Valley Cavaliers – KO 12.15pm
The new recruits have been the stars for the U14 finalists. In Carter Mountjoy’s first season at the Cavaliers, following two years at Rhondda Outlaws, he’s scored 11 tries, two behind the league’s top scorer. For the Wolves, it’s Noah Johnson. After moving from Cardiff Blue Dragons, the winger has run in eight tries.
U16 Grand Final – Aber Valley Wolves v Swansea Rams – KO 2pm
Both Harry Wrigglesworth and Finlay Walker are on seven tries for the season, just one behind the league’s leading scorer. Swansea Rams’ Wrigglesworth has also starred for West Wales this season, whilst Aber Valley’s Walker has seven Wales U16 caps and two U16 Four Nations trophy wins to his name.
JES Rugby League Conference Grand Final – South Wales Jets v Aberavon Fighting Irish – KO 4pm
For South Wales Jets, it has to be Marcus Webb. He’s scored 17 tries during this season’s campaign, including a hat-trick in the semi-final win over Cynon Valley Cavaliers, never failing to score in the matches he’s played. Aberavon have Will Davies, who’s scored nine tries this season, fourth best in the competition behind the Jets’ trio of Webb, Lewis Hughes and Dean Higgs.
