JES Group Rugby League Conference kicks off on Saturday

The JES Group Rugby League Conference kicks off tomorrow (Saturday 31st May) with two big matches.

Our champions from the last two seasons, Aberavon Fighting Irish and South Wales Jets, meet at Harlequins Field, Port Talbot (kick-off 2.30pm).

Last season’s Grand Final winners are the hosts and they’ll start their defence against the Jets, who have topped the table for the past two seasons.

In the Grand Final last year, the two sides were separated by just a conversion and a drop-goal so it’s certain to be a tight affair.

That’s the only time in four clashes that Aberavon have secured victory against the Jets, and whilst they’ll be looking for a second, the visitors won’t want to suffer defeat again as that’s the only game they’ve ever lost in the JES Group Rugby League Conference.

Meanwhile, at Glyncoch RFC near Pontypridd, the previous two former champions clash, as Rhondda Outlaws host Bridgend Blue Bulls (kick-off 2.30pm).

Rhondda won the league for the second time in 2022, with Bridgend winning the last of their ten titles in 2021.

And the head to head couldn’t be more even. It’s the 13th clash between the two sides, with each recording six wins, Rhondda scoring 314 points in those games and Bridgend getting 324.
