Junior Grand Finals 2014

A strong second half saw the Spartans pull away and claim the Under 14 Grand Final.

Scorpions scored first with an early try from scrum half Jac Morgan with Kurtis Davies adding the goal.

It didn’t take long for Spartans to get back into the game as Corey Dash crossed for an unconverted try. Ben Jones and James Bartlett also crossed for unconverted tries as half time arrived with Spartans 12-6 ahead.

Spartans increased their shortly after half time through Karlin Claridge with Ben Jones converting.

Spartans captain and Man of the Match Joe Meluish ran in the fifth try just right of the posts, Ben Jones adding the extras to put the his side 24-6 ahead and effectively the game was over.

They completed their scoring after 28 minutes when James Bartlett ran through for a try on the right but there was still time for Kingsley Morgans to add a consolation try under the sticks for the Scorpions, goaled by Kurtis Davies. But it was too little too late as Spartans held on to win their first piece of silverware.

Saints’ James McCarthy ran in four tries to earn the Man of the Match accolade as his side claimed the Under 15 title.

Connor Holland’s early try improved upon by James McCarthy put Saints ahead early on before Raiders hit back with tries from Owen Lewis and Matthew Brook, Shane Edwards converting the first.

Saints hit back with two tries by James McCarthy one of which he converted to put his side 16-10 ahead at the interval.

Raiders fought hard to get back into the game and we rewarded with a try from David Jones converted by Shane Edwards to tie up the scores.

Ryan James’ unconverted try bough Saints back into the game before Shane Edwards crossed for a try for Raiders and then picked himself to add the conversion.

Saints were not going to be denied as James McCarthy crossed for two further tries one of which he converted as his team held out to claim silverware in their first ever season.
