Wales Rugby League is pleased to announce the appointment of Jo Thomas as its new Non-Executive Director for People. This role will support strong leadership across the organisation and help build closer links with communities.
Jo has a strong interest in both people and sport, at national and grassroots level. She is focused on developing talent, supporting volunteers, and creating a positive and inclusive culture across rugby league in Wales.
Jo said: “I’m excited to help make sure our work supports the league’s long-term vision. I want to strengthen talent development and volunteer involvement so we have a strong future for rugby league in Wales. By building strong community links and promoting diversity, we can grow the sport and support the league’s continued success.”
Jo is an experienced HR leader with over 15 years’ experience and is MCIPD Level 7 qualified. She has led people strategies, supported organisational change, and managed complex employee issues. During her five years at the Welsh Rugby Union, she worked closely with senior leaders to improve employee engagement and align HR activity with the organisation’s goals.
She has also worked as a trusted adviser to senior leaders and boards, helping organisations improve performance by putting effective people practices in place. Her consultancy work, including within sports organisations, has focused on creating clear people strategies that support both day-to-day operations and long-term success.
Jo is looking forward to working with the team to strengthen the people strategy and support the league’s aims.
