Gary Taylor to replace Lyndon Price as Wales Wheelchair assistant coach

Lyndon PriceWales Wheelchair assistant coach Lyndon Price will be stepping down from his role due to personal reasons.

Price, who was appointed assistant coach in 2018, has enjoyed a successful time in the position, with his coaching skills helping Wales to win three Celtic Cups.

His final duties in the role will be at this year’s Celtic Cup and will then continue in the Welsh domestic game as head coach of Torfaen Tigers.

Wales head coach Stephen Jones said: “It’s with regret that I received the news that Lyndon was leaving his role as assistant coach with the the Wales Wheelchair national side.

“Over the last couple of years, Lyndon and I have formed a great working partnership with the squad. I would like to thank him for all of his hard work and wish him all the best moving forward with every success in his future coaching roles.”

Gary TaylorWelsh international Gary Taylor will take over as the new assistant officially after this year’s Celtic Cup tournament. Taylor will shadow Price at training and during the tournament.

The new assistant has represented his county on 28 occasions scoring three tries and nine goals and picked up five Celtic Cups.

Taylor will also take on the role as Player Welfare Officer until after this year’s World Cup.

He says: “I’m absolutely shocked and proud to be given the opportunity to work with Steve and the Welsh team/family.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing where we can take this Wales Wheelchair Rugby League squad, with the World Cup coming up in the autumn.”

Jones adds: “Gary will bring a lot to the coaching team and with the players all knowing him from his time playing for Wales will help make the transition in May a smooth process.

“Gary was already in the process of becoming the player welfare officer for the World Cup, as his easy approachable nature as well as his mental health first aid training and his welfare role at North Wales Crusaders, made him our obvious choice for the role. Lyndon’s resignation made my decision to offer Gary the assistant coach role an easy one, and I look forward to building another successful partnership.”
