Gwylio’r Cymry – Crusaders continue winning ways

North Wales Crusaders continued their unbeaten streak in the Wheelchair Championship West as they cruised to an 80-4 victory over Widnes Vikings. Harry Jones scored a brace of tries whilst Martin Turner managed a solitary try and five conversions with Jess Booth also in action. The scoring was rounded off by Wyatt Jones who managed a pair of tries, Fionn McCabe who secured himself a hat-trick of tries whilst Matthew Turner (son of Martin) got five tries and nine conversions.

In the Wheelchair Super League, Jodie Boyd-Ward captained Leeds Rhinos and was key in her side’s 58-16 victory over a Wigan Warriors side that included Scott Trigg-Turner. Before that match, their reserves side met, with Brogan Evans scoring her first try in a Wigan jersey. Mark Williams scored a try and two conversions for Wigan reserves. Elsewhere in Super League, Stuart Williams once again came off the bench for Edinburgh Giants as they fell 79-4 to Halifax Panthers.

Dani McGifford scored a try for St Helens in the Women’s Super League as they overcame Leeds Rhinos thanks to a last-minute try and goal from Wales assistant coach Faye Gaskin. Bethan Dainton was in the Rhinos’ side. Agnes Wood was also a try scorer, as her York Valkyrie side beat Leigh Leopards. Meanwhile, Carys Marsh helped Wigan Warriors to a big win over Gracie Hobbs‘ Huddersfield Giants. 

In the men’s Super League, Denive Balmforth played one of his best games so far in the competition, scoring two tries, but his Catalans Dragons side were denied a win in the final few minutes at home to Warrington Wolves. Junior Westwood and Isaac Holdsworth were in Warrington’s academy side in their win at Leigh Leopards. Sam Grice starred in the Castleford Tigers’ 96-6 win over Salford Red Devils, whilst Sam Dickenson did likewise for Wigan Warriors as they beat Huddersfield Giants 42-10 and Robbie Brook helped Wakefield Trinity to a 44-0 win over Bradford Bulls. Oliver Garmston played in St Helens’ academy loss at Leeds Rhinos.

Caleb Aekins scored two tries for Featherston Rovers in their mammoth 70-4 men’s Championship win at bottom side Hunslet, where 52 points were scored in the second half. Curtis Davies and Huw Worthington played for London Broncos in their home defeat to Doncaster. Billy Walkley‘s Sheffield Eagles side lost at Oldham. 

Crusaders men, who again featured Paddy Jones and Ant Walker, carried on with their winning ways at the top of the League 1 table with a battling win over Dec Tomlinson‘s Dewsbury Rams. Midlands Hurricanes slipped down to fourth after losing away to Workington Town despite Luis Roberts going over for a try.

In the NRL, Harry Hayes and Sam Hughes both played in Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs’ win at North Queensland Cowboys.
