There were no shocks in the Challenge Cup last weekend as our Championship players performed well against Super League opposition.
Widnes Vikings went out at home to Warrington Wolves, pushing the Super League club all the way, before eventually losing 26-16 in front of 7,011 fans. Playing for Widnes were the Welsh quartet of Mike Butt, Matty Fozard, Rhodri Lloyd and Gavin Bennion, with Butt creating a try and making a try-saving tackle at the other end.
In other games, Elliot Kear‘s Batley Bulldogs lost at Leigh Leopards, Caleb Aekins was in the Featherstone Rovers side that lost at Catalans Dragons and Gil Dudson‘s Oldham lost at Hull Kingston Rovers.
In the NRL, Harry Hayes came off the bench to star for Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in their win over Gold Coast Titans at their traditional Belmore ground. In the reserves, Hayden Barton played in the Sydney Roosters loss to Penrith Panthers.
In Super League Reserves, Fin Yates was a try scorer for Salford Red Devils as they beat Bradford Bulls, whilst Henry Parker played for Leigh Leopards debut in their loss at Luke Thomas‘ Warrington Wolves.
Last Wednesday night in a Wheelchair friendly match, Mark Williams scored a first-half hat-trick of tries as part of the Wigan squad that defeated Salford Red Devils 78-0. He also managed to convert two of those tries. Women’s international Brogan Evans made her Wheelchair Rugby League debut as part of the Salford team.
