Gwylio’r Cymry – Welsh success at the weekend

The Super League Reserves kicked off last weekend with a number of our up-and-coming stars featuring. Sam Grice was successful in the Castleford Tigers side that beat Finn Yates‘ Salford Red Devils. Luke Thomas starred in Warrington Wolves’ win over Wakefield Trinity, whilst Lewis Owens helped Bradford Bulls to a win over Hull FC.

Back to first team action and in the Championship, Elliot Kear scored a try for Batley Bulldogs as they had a good 28-20 home win against Widnes Vikings. Matty Fozard and Rhys Williams were amongst the Widnes try scorers with Rhodri Lloyd and Gavin Bennion also turning out. The only other Welsh international playing in the Championship last weekend was Caleb Aekins who took part in Featherstone Rovers’ defeat at home to Sheffield Eagles.

In League 1, Midlands Hurricanes and Workington Town took part in a thrilling 16-all draw, with Luis Roberts playing for Midlands. Rochdale Hornets were winners over Cornwall, the latter featuring Matt Ross and Jamie Jenkins.

In the Elite France XIII league, Max Clarke scored his first ever try for Carcasonne XIII as they beat Avignon 46-16.

In the NRL, Harry Hayes was part of the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs side that won away at St George Illawarra Dragons in their first round game, whilst in the NSW Cup, Haydon Barton starred for Sydney Roosters Reserves as they beat North Sydney Bears.

As previously reported, the WRL Wheelchair Development League kicked off on Sunday with seven Welsh internationals, Scott Trigg-Turner, Jamie Reynolds, Jason Reynolds, Lee Sargent, Harry Jones, Mason Baker and Jess Booth, as well as a number of other Welsh-qualified hopefuls, all taking part.
