Everyone at Wales Rugby League is so sorry to hear about the sudden passing of Masters international player Dave Ward, who died this morning aged just 41.

Dave was born in Salford in 1982 and played rugby as soon as he could pick up a ball supporting his local team Salford Red Devils. Moving with his fiancée Donna to Wales, he played rugby league for Bangor Buffaloes, Conwy Celts, Môn Knights and eventually the North Wales Buccaneers Masters side, Masters Rugby League being played by those aged 35 and over. He played four times for Wales Masters in 2022, including two matches in the Masters World Festival, famously being denied a try against England by what is now known as the ‘heavy English Tattoo’ on his calf that weighed him down.

Dave, or Wardy as he was known, leaves his beloved fiancée Donna, his children Brooke, Billy and Nicky, and his recent grandson Freddie. Our deepest condolences go out to all of his family and friends.

Dave Ward – 15/11/1981 – 28/10/2023
