Junior Leagues History

Organised junior competitions in South Wales started in earnest in 2008 largely thanks to the impending Super League promotion for Celtic Crusaders and the development opportunity it provided. For a number of years, clubs were set up fielding sides at random age-groups, but recently these have now settled into club formats with the most of the current set-up feeding into an open-age side.

These leagues have been breeding grounds for many Super League players and Welsh internationals, including Lloyd White, Elliot Kear, Gil Dudson, Ben Flower and Regan Grace, the latter a try-scoring winner in an under 14 Final in 2011.

Grand Final Day is always one of the highlights of the WRL season in South Wales and a history of this can be seen below.
