Gwylio’r Cymry – How the Welsh did this week

There was a second Super League appearance for Cynon Valley Cavaliers product Finley Yates who started at hooker for Salford Red Devils in their defeat at Wigan Warriors. The two sides also met at reserves level with Wigan again tasting victory. Finlay Walker, Joseph Coope-Franklin, Billy Glover and John Hutchings were in the Salford side. Elsewhere in Super League Reserves, Lewis Owens was in the Bradford Bulls side that lost to Warrington Wolves and Sam Grice played in Castleford Tigers’ defeat at Hull FC.

In the Championship, London Broncos had a good home win against Hunslet with Huw Worthington, Matt Ross and Curtis Davies all starring. The latter’s twin Connor Davies got the better of Elliot Kear after Halifax Panthers hammered Batley Bulldogs, Jude Ferreira scored a try for York Knights in their win at Barrow Raiders, and Gil Dudson starred for Oldham in their win at Sheffield Eagles. But Caleb Aekins was on the wrong side of a 48-24 scoreline as his Featherstone Rovers side lost at home to Bradford Bulls.

Midlands Hurriances remain top of League 1 with Luis Roberts contributing to their victory over George Birch‘s Newcastle Thunder. North Wales Crusaders are on their heels with Paddy Jones and Ant Walker both coming off the bench in their close win at Will Evans‘ Workington Town. Elsewhere, Billy Walkley played in Keighley Cougars’ loss at Dewsbury Rams, whilst Harry Boots was in action for Cornwall in the club’s final-ever game (they announced today that they were folding) – a home defeat to Whitehaven.

In France, Max Clarke helped Carcassonne XIII regain second place in the French Elite with their 32-12 win over St Esteve-XIII Catalan, and in Australia, Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs remain unbeaten with Harry Hayes starring their away win at Cronulla Sutherland Sharks.

Cardiff Demons got their first win in the Women’s Championship with a 40-18 victory at Castleford Tigers. As per usual, the Cardiff side was full of Wales internationals with Leanne Burnell running in a hat-trick of tries. Lucia Davies added two with Lora Roberts, Zoe Heeley and Olivia Williams also crossing. Ffion Jones kicked three goals and her twin sister Sara Jones added one. Rhi Parker, Meg Whittaker, Jasmine Gibbons, Bridget Jones, Charley Mundy, Ffion Jenkins and Lauren Aitken were the other Welsh internationals in the side. Kathryn Salter kicked four goals for London Broncos as they had a good win at home to Featherstone Rovers. Emily Hughes was also in the Broncos side with Ashlea Prescott playing for Rovers. Georgia Taylor was in the Sheffield Eagles side as they lost at Hull Kingston Rovers.
