The newly-formed partnership between Hull FC and Wales Rugby League commenced last night (Thursday) when the Swansea Rams U13 side attended a training session at The Gnoll in Neath.
To start the evening, Hull FC staff Richard Tate, Francis Cummins and Gareth Ellis delivered an open coaching CPD workshop for community and pathway coaches at The Gnoll. Clive Griffiths led the introductions and underlined the exciting prospects for young players and development for them and coaches across Wales.
The Workshop opened with Richard Tate giving a presentation covering philosophies and coaching styles, outlining principles and best practices when coaching young players to get the best out of them, emphasising enjoyment and core skill development.
This was backed up with a demonstration coaching session covering the themes from the presentation. Hull staff coached the Swansea Rams u13 players through a session with catch and pass being the theme running through warm up, drills and small-sided games.
This was the first of three sessions in three days, with U14 and U16 development hub sessions being run on Friday and Saturday respectively.
Griffiths said: “We were delighted with the first session. We were in the hands of some rugby royalty last night. It’s a partnership which will grow I’m sure. Hull FC’s commitment to Wales Rugby League is evident as they’re in South Wales for three days, and I’d like to thank Richard, Francis and Gareth for coming down and we look forward to the future.
“If anyone wants to be involved in taster days and coaching days, please speak to your club, and they’ll put you forward and eventually you too can be involved in such days with quality individuals.”
