WRL to hold welfare and coaching courses

Wales Rugby League are holding more online courses in January and February to prepare everyone for the new season, when the sport is allowed to recommence.

The courses, both of which start the week commencing January 25, are as follows…

Tuesdays 7-8.30pm for three weeks – Time To Listen Course – all Child Welfare Officers at Welsh clubs need to attend.

Wednesdays 7-8.30pm for six weeks – RLEF Level 1 Coaching Certificate. The coaching course theory modules will be done online and practical modules will be arranged after lockdown.

Before Christmas, Wales Rugby League successfully ran a pilot RLEF Level 1 Coaching course at Flintshire Falcons in North Wales, with the theory being online, and then two full practical days performed by Mark Jones and Latham Tawhai. Four new coaches were qualified.

Jones said: “Through diversity comes opportunity, and due to COVID locking the nation down again, WRL are staying proactive. We are offering free online courses to upskill our volunteers and be able to hit the ground running when Rugby League returns to Wales.”

All courses are free and applicants need to email mark.jones@walesrugbyleague.co.uk to register.
